Jean Nouvel designed the tower like a giant waterspout, emerging from the earth and trying to touch the sky. Earthy colours at the base gradually change as the tower rises, through sky blue to transparency in the crowning dome. Its expression is inspired by the cultural and geographical heritage of Barcelona: the rounded forms of Gaudí and the mountain of Montserrat.
