Tensions continue to simmer in Manipur as the violence-hit state witnessed fresh militant attacks on farmers. The untoward incident resulted in the killing of one woman and leaving several injured. In the wake of the incident, the Centre has ordered the deployment of 133 CRPF battalion, 7 Manipur Rifles and Sagolmang Police team. The security was stationed and deployed, keeping a tight vigil to avoid unwanted incident. Meanwhile, MHA on Nov 14 extended Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 in five districts of Manipur with immediate effect. The restrictions will be put in place till March 31, 2025 to address well-coordinated operation by the security forces in the ethnic violent-hit state. The imposition of AFSPA will be imposed in the areas of Sekmai, Lamsang, Lamlai, Jiribam, Leimakhong and Moirang Police Stations. This decision follows a comprehensive review of Manipur’s security situation conducted in consultation with key stakeholders.
