HIV/AIDS is one of the biggest enemies of mankind. At present there are approximately 34 million people infected with the HIV virus (source : TeachAIDS). Not only has the disease taken away millions of lives, it has also managed to create rifts between societies. Millions have to face the stigma of discrimination every day.
The primary means of transmission of the disease is sexual intercourse and as result of this it becomes exceedingly difficult to control the spread of the disease. This video aims at highlighting some of the projects taken up by a Kolkata based NGO called Bhoruka Public Welfare Trust (with financial support from Hope Foundation, Big Lottery and SACS). The first half of the video deals with intervention projects which are aimed are spreading HIV/AIDS awareness among two high risk population,
- Truck drives (who have a tendency to bring the disease back to their home)
- Immigrant population (people who are illegally migrating from countries where HIV awareness is low)
The video captures some of the popular methods of spreading awareness which gave have managed had a good impact on the target population.
The second half of the video introduces the audience to children who have been affected/infected by HIV. These innocent souls who are being looked after at special home of BPWT have been deprived of a life they deserve by the disease. The biggest concern is that there are probably thousands of kids who are suffering from the same plight who have no one to take care of them.
