Located on the north bank of the Douro River, 355 km (222 miles) north of Lisbon, and 115 km (72 miles) east of Porto, Peso da Régua is at the heart of the Port Wine Demarcated Region. Port Wine is, by far, the most famous and most exported Portuguese wine. As the city that ran the world's first demarcated wine region, Régua's fortunes have been closely tied to this beverage for more than 250 years.
