It's getting late in the season and canoe tripping opportunities are not ideal at this time of year. Hunters are out, there is a lot less daylight, and the combination of wet/cold conditions can make it miserable. But I decided to get away for a short solo trip to explore the southern branch of a river I paddled earlier in the summer. It wasn't an ideal start as I get slammed by a wicked storm with tons of rain, thunder/lighting and crazy winds that included tornado warnings.
