An international chivalric organization, a confraternity of Hospitaller Confreres and Consoeurs from all over the world, founded in 1995 with its Supreme Grand Priory based in Scotland, Great Britain.
It seeks to emulate the strong and didactic traditions of the medieval Order of Saint Lazarus and ensure that the Lazarite spirit of Hospitaller aid, philanthropy and chivalry are passed on from one generation to another. The United Grand Priories are independent and ecumenical, all under the spiritual protection of established Christian ecclesiastical officers. The Order carries out devoted and essential philanthropic aid and assistance throughout the world and has been lauded by the relevant authorities for its inbuilt philosophy of aiding and assisting without seeking any other reward save the joy of knowing that help and aid were given to those that need it. The Order is registered as a chivalric organisation and has NGO status within the United Nations. It is also registered within the European Commission and agencies of the Council of Europe. Its foundations are all registered as per the laws of the land in the 71 countries it operates. With 14,000 members worldwide, the United Grand Priories is indeed one of the largest chivalric organizations worldwide and the biggest Lazarite confraternity operating on 5 continents. Influential personalities and executives, ecclesiastics, managers, government officers and people from all walks of life are registered as members from all the continents. The Order is open to male and female postulants who are approved as suitable for membership by the Knights in Council of the Grand Priory of the region or by the Delegation of the Order in the region. Postulants wishing to enter the Order from regions which are not represented by a Grand Priory can join the Grand Priory of the International Lazarites.
