Notice of purchase of 54 new-generation Leopard 2A7 tanks was announced by the Norwegian government on February 3, according to AFP. Planned over several years, the order for Leopard 2A7 tanks will allow Norway to renew its fleet of 36 old Leopard 2A4s.
The order for the Leopard 2A7 tank from German defense manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann is part of a $1.96 billion defense spending allocation approved by the Norwegian parliament. The exact cost for 54 Leopard 2A7 tanks has not been announced. In addition, Norway also has the option to buy 18 more Leopard 2A7 tanks. The first tanks are expected to be delivered in 2026.
