Swedish director Ruben Östlund discusses Force Majeure and his upcoming project.
Ruben Östlund is a Swedish filmmaker whose fiction films often explore group and individual behaviour in relation to societal expectations. These films include The Guitar Mongoloid (2004), Involuntary (2008) and Play (2011).
Ruben was at TIFF 2014 to present his latest film, Force Majeure (Turist), which won the Jury Prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival. The film charts a vacationing family's internal dynamic before, during and after a perceived avalanche. We invited Ruben to our studio space at CineCycle to discuss the film, themes in his work and filming the self-described greatest avalanche scene in film history.
