STORYLINE:
The European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton continued her visit to China on Thursday, holding a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in Beijing.
On Wednesday Ashton took part in the inaugural EU-China High-Level Strategic Dialogue in the south western city of Guiyang.
Trade ties between EU and China continue to become closer, with China being Europe's second-biggest trading partner and the fastest-growing export market.
However the relationship has also been troubled with issues such as fair access of European firms to the Chinese market and China's opposition to EU's tougher new sanctions against Iran.
Ashton will meet with Chinese premier Wen Jiabao later on Thursday.
