Kya hai Kashi ka Itihas? Was Varanasi always known as the city of Shiva or Shiva ki Nagri. This presentation explores the origins, history, timeline and the mythology surrounding Varanasi or Kashi. We shall see how the geography of Varanasi shaped its name, identity, history, mythology & even its character. After knowing the story behind the name of Varanasi, we shall travel from the Vedic to Mauryan, Gupta dynasties. Briefly talking about the times of Adi Shankaracharya we shall see how the city changed in the wake of Islamic invasions and eventually rejuvenated by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar under the Marathas. We shall discuss about its sacred geography including the Chunar Hills, the three rivers of Assi, Varuna & Ganga river and also the famous temples of Varanasi including Kashi Vishwanath, Bindu Madhav temple and Adi Keshava Temple near Rajghat.
