DISCLOSURE: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. I'll show you how I upgraded the shift plate on my Alpha One Gen One stern drive on my 1984 Ranger 395V I/O bass boat. My boat was shifting hard due to a defective shift cut- out switch. The original roller type plate switch is no longer available. Mercruiser sells a new shift plate kit to upgrade to a new plunger type switch that is mounted on a new shift plate. It also comes with a new shift assist piston. In this video, I show how to remove the old shift plate that has the old style roller-type switch and upgrade to the new replacement part offered by Mercruiser. During this install, I also adjust the shift cables.
