Hedging using Derivatives will reduce the Loss

Futures (Margin Based)
Buying the Futures denotes LONG position. Expecting Price on Up.
Seller the Futures denotes SHORT position. Expecting Price to Down.

Options (Premium Based)
Two Types : Call Option & Put Option.
Call Option : Expecting price on up. Put Option : Expecting Price Down.

Equity Market :
Cash Market is a market transacts (Buy/Sell) the Stocks / Shares
Stocks are bought/sold in exchange for Cash
Can hold for a lifetime (like property) | only about 2000 stocks in NSE
Holding/Owning of a stock entitles investors a small portion of the Company
Ownership / Profits (Dividends) of the company

Allows the trader/investor for hedging / speculative trades.

Investor has to Buy/Sell pre-defined quantity (Lot)
Limited Stocks (156 stocks) trading in NSE Futures segment as per SEBI criteria
Futures price fluctuates on underlying (Spot) of the stock/index

Futures Market :
Vegetable farmer may use futures to fix a specific price to sell the vegetables
Case 1:
If oversupply of vegetables - prices will decrease
Farmer may lose money
Case 2:
Farmer can sell in Futures market at the time of growing vegetables, at a specific rate
He will reduce the risk of over-supply & vegetable rate decrease is hedged


Equity
Buy / Sell in exchange of Cash
Investors may own even a single share
Investors can own the shares for any amount of time
