Lisa reviews everyday products for accessible living at www.DayUndefined.com. In this video, she gives two different demonstrations of using the OXO Good Grips Smooth Edge Can Opener.
Overall, she likes the can opener, especially once she has learned the movements required to use it. However, as someone with decreased coordination, she find that there are both pros and cons, and she addresses these specifically.
In the first part of the video, she uses the can opener on a can of mushrooms. She attaches it to the edge and then twists the large knob until she feels less resistance (to know the opener has cut the full way around). Then she lightly squeezes the can to help her pull off the lid more easily. She finds that the small pliers are too difficult for her to use with limited coordination. She does appreciate that the can opener does not leave sharp edges on the lid or on the top of the can.
In the second part of the video, Lisa uses the opener on a smaller can of tuna. She notices that it doesn't always feel like it's cutting, but it often is working! :) She remarks again about how the pliers require coordinated movements that she has not been able to do.
