Taking a look at the 24 volume TETSUJIN-28 manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama, the original "remotely controlled robot by a human operator". Published between 1956-1966 and adapted as an anime in 1963. It was brought over to the U.S. by producer Fred Ladd as GIGANTOR.
