The purpose of the x-ray tube is to produce an
x-ray beam. The x-ray tube contains a negative
electrode that when the current is applied to it,
will produce a mass of electrons that will inter-
act with a positive electrode in order to produce
x-rays. The negative electrode is on one side of the
x-ray tube. It is called the cathode. The cathode
contains a fi lament. The positive electrode is on
the opposite side of the x-ray tube. It is called the
anode. The anode contains a focal spot where the
electrons interact to produce the x-rays.
