Here's the start of a great little gliding flight where we had to decide whether to release from the tow plane early as we were in good lift. I was in a DG1001S at Canberra Gliding Club with Fitz and all the awesome flying knowledge he brings. He's flown Panavia Tornados and other fast jets and has set some gliding wave flying speed records recently. Check out some of Fitz's epic wave flights from Canberra:

-----
30s to 1 Min: announcing landing options in case the tow rope broke or the tow plane had an engine failure.
1:20 to 1:30: turning up the beeping volume for the vario computer that tells us if the glider is going up or down (faster beeping = more lift from rising air).
1:30 to 2:30: debating whether to release from the tow plane very early and low because we've flown into some quickly rising air.
2:40 to 3:10: Stories of releasing from the tow plane too early.
3:15 to 4:30: releasing from the tow plane and rolling to 40 degrees angle of bank to stay inside and climb in the column of rising air (called a thermal).
4:30 to 5:00: realising there's two columns or 'cores' of rising air that can help us climb higher.
(We stayed up for another hour of gliding and got to about 7000 feet above sea level.)
5:00 to 5:20: landing back at the airfield.
