Watch David Elliman, a Consultant in Community Child Health, from Whittington Health, London, talking about 'catching-up immunisations for migrants'.
Immunisation is the most cost-effective healthcare intervention we have (bar the provision of clean water). The immunisation schedule in England is fairly complex so this seminar helps unravel some of the issues surrounding immunisation in migrant health.
Some infections like rubella can be higher among migrant communities, so it's important that patients are vaccinated, conversely some infections may currently have high rates in this country such as whooping cough -- so children coming into the country need to be protected against these infections.
David discusses not only what immunisations are available to migrants but also how to assess new migrant patients, what to look for, & what to do if patients have incomplete immunisation status.
