Production Notes
Released in September 2017. Single malts making up this blend include the Highland malt, Clynelish, and the Speysider Roseilses (opened in 2010).
The whisky spirit has been aged in wine casks, but that's all we know. Don't know if it is red wines, white wines, or maybe some sherry and port casks.
If you visit the Diageo website they recommend enjoying this as a mixer with gingerale.
Nose (undiluted)
Apples, sweetness of buttercups, a wee pine cone note that hints at peat.
Palate (undiluted)
Apples, pears, a lot of grapefruit, a little caramel sweetness initially that transitions mid palate to a bitterness, especially on the finish.
Finish (undiluted)
Short finish. Flavours do not last. What flavours there are consist of tingling and grainy lemon pith, grapefruit and a slight alcohol note and that bitterness that I liken to lemon seed.
General Impressions
This is best used as mix as recommended by Johnnie Walker on their website. I saw a suggested serving with ginger ale and ice. I think it would work beautifully that way, but on its own it disappoints. Adding water to a near serving did not help it either.
Over all, this is a good whisky base in a cocktail. Not recommended neat.
Cheers!
