Galaktoboureko is creamy and easy greek custard pie. My galaktoboureko recipe made with phyllo dough and creamy custard is light and refreshing. This Galaktoboureko is my all time favorite Greek dessert. It is crispy layers of Greek phyllo pastry on top and on the bottom, filled with a creamy custard, that is soaked in a sugar and lemon syrup. Yummy 🤤
❤️ Ingredients ❤️
Custard:
6 cups milk
1 cup semolina flour/cream of wheat
2 tbsp cornstarch
1 cup sugar
1 vanilla sugar or 1 tbsp vanilla extract
1 tsp fine grated lemon zest
6 eggs
1/3 cup sugar
For layers:
8 tbsp melted butter
14 phyllo dough sheets
For sauce:
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 lemon sliced
Once mixture starts to boil, cook for a 5 minutes on a low heat. Strain and pour over custard pie.
Mix all and cook on a medium to low heat until thick. Turn the heat off and add vanilla and lemon zest.
Mix eggs and 1/3 cup sugar. Mix in little hot custard to temper the eggs and then combine eggs and custard mixture well.
Layer 7 phyllo sheet on the bottom of 9x13 pan , brushing with melted butter each layer. Pour custard over.
Layer 7 phyllo sheets on the top and brush each layer with butter. Cut on top for a steam to escape and bake at 400F until brown and custard is set in the center.
Pour cooled syrup over hot custard.
