Tie Dye Kitty When We Were Young 1995 - Smith Tuttle
The History of "Sun Caps Theme":
Milk Cap Game, Flipper Cap Game, Pog Slammers, Hero Caps, Sun Caps what ever they were called, we wrote a song about it back then.
We were hired by The Trinidad Guardian Newspaper spearheaded by Mr. Christopher Cozier back then to write an original song about a new game they were trying to launch onto the local Trinidad market that was all the craze in the US of A.
They told us that we had to work quickly because they really wanted to launch the product very soon, so we started playing around with musical ideas the next day.
On the third day after the meeting with the Newspaper, we called them to our band room to hear what we came up with.
They loved the energy, so we got the approval to go to the next next step!
Two days later we were at HOLE IN THE WALL studio recording the song.
The KICKER was, I did not have the lyrics for the song yet, because at that time in my musical life, we had no microphone in our band room, nor anyway to record the rehearsal so I just had the ideas for vocals floating around in my head, so after we recorded all the music, I took 20 min listening back to the raw music and completed the lyrics and melody and an hour later we were done recording.
A week later we were told that the music video had to be done for the song now, and that would be be the upcoming week.
The band never knew when the edited video for the "Sun Cap toy" hit the market, nor when our video started showing on local TV.
All we knew was that almost overnight, nightclubs started calling to book us for shows, and we had the entertainment newspaper "Showtime" calling about regular features.
SUN CAP THEME (LYRICS)
Different Colors all around
Shattered "Sun Caps" on the ground
Different Colors all around
Shattered "Sun Caps" on the ground
You flash them and I'll Rake them
I'll blast them and I'll take them
Slam and shake the ground
SunCap blaster in town
You flash them and I'll Rake them
I'll blast them and I'll take them
Slam and shake the ground
SunCap blaster in town
Different Colors all around (fast slam take them)
Shattered "Sun Caps" on the ground (fast slam break them)
Different Colors all around (fast slam take them)
Shattered "Sun Caps" on the ground (fast slam break them)
Always brings a smile our way
Throw them in start over again
Always brings a smile our way
Throw them in start over again.
Different Colors all around
Shattered "Sun Caps" on the ground
Set apart from all the rest
Winner with them up to your chest
Different Colors all around (fast slam take them)
Shattered "Sun Caps" on the ground (fast slam break them)
Different Colors all around (fast slam take them)
Shattered "Sun Caps" on the ground (fast slam break them)
A little History Trinidad grunge and music
When grunge was cool, I was in this band that made waves on the local scene.
So between the years 2002-2006 my band Smith Tuttle was taking Trinidad and Tobago by storm alongside many other great bands that played original music.
some of those bands were: Brothers Grimm, Black Rose, Oddfellows Local, Red Tears, Legion, Mach4, Chaos, Plague, Escape, Evlareign, Tribal Darkness, Lucifix, Brown Fox, Rubber Zone, Infernal Death, Joshua, Overdose , Sprang, Neon Dog, Babylon Pig, Bleed and Jaundis I.
Those were the good ole days, the music scene on this small island was buzzing and buzzing hard! there was so much energy in our youth, the nightlife was great and local pubs were just starting to pay attention, they knew they could hire these upcoming bands for very little.
To hire Trinidad's mainstream musical entertainers that play the very popular SOCA MUSIC would mean big bucks had to come out of pocket first, So the bars went with the cheap and easy...lol
Fast Forward 20 years and you get TIE DYE KITTY
