When Belief Becomes Faith. Randall Niles tells the Parable of a Tight Rope Walker to illustrate the difference between "belief" and "faith."
Truth is so obscure in these times and falsehood so established that unless one loves the truth, he cannot know it. (Blaise Pascal; 1623-1662)
Have you ever really thought about your belief system? I mean, really dug in and examined your beliefs?
What is a belief anyway?
It seems belief is the intellectual, rational acceptance of a truth concurrence with a fact, concept, or notion in life. Similarly, a "belief system" is a lifetime of beliefs wrapped together in a personal worldview a way we see the totality of reality each and every day.
However, doesnt it seem that belief that is, intellectual acceptance of facts -- only goes so far? Doesnt true living require that we put our beliefs into action? Isnt intellectual belief without actionable faith hollow and somewhat meaningless?
What is faith anyway?
It seems that faith is having enough conviction in our beliefs that were willing to take action. A faith system is a belief system in motion. Faith is a willingness to hang our beliefs out on a limb in fact, to truly stake our lives on our beliefs.
You will never know how much you believe something until it is a matter of life and death. (C.S. Lewis)
