The death toll from the Bududa landslides has reached 26. This revelation came as the search for survivors came to an end. District have since halted the excavation, and are preparing to move equipment. The landslides happened three weeks, following a spate of heavy rains in the area, which covered 38 houses. According to the district chairperson Wilson Watira, 21 bodies were still missing by Saturday, but they are now presumed to have died and the place has been declared a grave. Meanwhile, well-wishers, including the Mt. Elgon Hotel Mbale yesterday, delivered an assortment of relief items to the landslide victims to help them through the festive season.
