Turning is such a huge part of snowboarding and having the ability to maneuver your board with precision is a game-changer. The more confident you are at turning, the more you can ride steeper, tighter, or gnarly terrain. In today's breakdown, we discuss knee steering for skidded turns. ***knee steering is utilized for skidded NOT carving. Nerdy youtube video dropping tomorrow about this exact topic. Save and share this nerdy technique and give it a try the next time you snowboard.

This technique is awesome but can be challenging at first because you have to go against your muscle memory and already establish habits. Spend a decent amount of time trying this and continue to practice it day after day and it will pay off, trust me.

1) Find a slope with a small incline so you have momentum when creating these turns. You can isolate heel than toe turn by pointing your board down the hill and then making one single turn. This turn will look like a "J."

TOESIDE! The key is to get your board to turn from the front foot as if it's a traditional car steering with the front tires. The benefit of this is getting early edge engagement, easier to manage pressure, and better ability to have turn shape, which can manage your speed.

Point the board down the hill and shift about 60% of your weight to your front foot. Stack your lead shoulder over your toeside turn before initiating the turn. To actually initiate the toe turn, apply pressure to the tongue of your boot so your knees flexes over your toe strap. You can imagine you have a spider on the heel strap, and you wanna squish that bug before it crawls away.

The more and faster you apply that pressure, the quicker your turn will be. If you're struggling to turn, it is either because your shoulder or hip is not in the right spot or you're not leaning on the front foot.

HEELSIDE! Apply about 60 of your weight over your lead foot by flexing both knees but your lead leg a bit more while slightly shifting your belly button towards the nose. Next, rotate your femur and knee towards the heelside edge. This will pivot the board and cause early edge engagement. I ran outta space, sorry
