(1 Sep 2019) US Vice President Mike Pence and Second Lady Karen Pence arrived in Warsaw on Sunday morning to attend a ceremony commemorating the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II in the Polish capital.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel and many other leaders will also attend the main event in Warsaw.

The invasion of Poland by Nazi German troops on September 1, 1939, marks the outbreak of World War II.
Poland remained under German occupation for more than five years and lost around six million citizens, and suffered damaged towns, villages and industry.
Today Germany is Poland's closest partner in the EU and also in trade and economy.
