Dr. Narda Robinson compiled this video to help inform clients and practitioners that more options exist than surgery, drugs, and/or euthanasia for dogs with intervertebral disk disease (IVDD) and/or spinal cord injury (SCI). The problem is that many veterinarians either don't know or don't want clients to know about the value of medical acupuncture and related techniques for these conditions. As with the T.R.A.G.I.C. TPLO (see our video on that highly invasive surgery), there may be secondary gain for doctors to not disclose information on safer, less expense options. Not that all healthcare providers are doing so, but perhaps the corporations they work for are incentivizing practitioners to upsell procedures that may not be in your animal's best interest. Or, the veterinary school from which they graduated failed to teach them adequately about nonsurgical options. In any case, we are here to remedy that through education of healthcare professionals and advocacy for animals and their caregivers.
