commentary: to add to its troubles, the government is now also having to deal with unrest in the nations secondary schools: thousands of students gathered in paris to demand both that the system under which they're educated be reformed and that young men should no longer be liable to two years of compulsory military service. only the day before (9 march) the streets of the capital had echoed to the chants of tens of thousands of striking government employees. now it was the turn of the students whose schools the strikers had shut down.
