Zopf (which literally means braid) is probably the most famous Swiss bread
Ingredients:
500 g of flour
1 tablespoon of salt
1 /2 tablespoon of sugar
½ cube of fresh yeast (approx. 20 g)
80 g butter
1 egg
300g milk
Brush
1 egg
How to:
Mix the flour, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Crumble the yeast, add. Cut butter into pieces, mix in with the egg and milk, knead into a soft smooth dough. Cover and let rise twice at room temperature for approx. 1 1/2 hours.
to braid hair:
*Halve the plaited dough, shape both halves into a roll about 70 cm long, which becomes a little thinner at the ends.
*Place both crosswise on the work surface.
*Place the dough end of the roll below from top right to bottom left.
*Place the opposite end of the dough from bottom left to top right.
*Repeat these two processes until the strands are knotted.
*Lightly press the ends together and place under the braid.
Brush:
Place the plait on a baking sheet covered with baking paper. Knock the egg, brush the braid with a little egg, let rise again for about 30 minutes, brush again with the egg.
to bake:
Approx. 35 minutes in the lower half of the oven preheated to 200 degrees. Take out, cool on a rack.
Enjoy your meal :)
