There are many ways to improve guitar lick performance, but the idea covered in this lesson - in particular - can be one of the easiest that you will ever learn. In fact it will make such a difference to your lick accuracy & feel that you’ll want to add this idea into your routine right away.

In this lesson, I am going to show you how to add called “guide notes” in front of your licks. These guide notes will work to help make the areas of; technique, rhythm and overall performance of the licks you play more accurate, and thus, more effective.

The first exercise of the lesson focuses on the simplicity behind the application of guide notes. As soon as you try this idea, you’ll notice how much more functional and more accurate every lick begins to feel. The best part is that any lick can have this idea added to build greater accuracy and better feel.

Prior to performing a lick, the guide note technique simply adds a few hits upon a note (or group of notes) using the licks similar rhythm duration. The process works by building up the feel before there is a transfer up the kinetic chain. With the guide notes in play, the feel of the lick is firmly established and thus the performance of the lick is improved dramatically.
