A quick and simple recipe to make the classic brown bread.
BROWN BREAD
Ingredients
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups refined flour
2 tablespoons milk powder
2 teaspoons castor sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons activated yeast
Milk wash as required
2 tablespoons
Melted butter as required
Method
1. Preheat the oven at 180º C.
2. In a bowl, sieve whole wheat flour, refined flour and milk powder. Add castor sugar and salt. Make a well in the centre, add yeast. Knead to soft dough. Apply softened butter and continue to knead. Keep aside for proving for 20-25 minutes.
3. Dust plain flour on the worktop, knock back the dough and roll the dough into a disc of medium thickness. Fold from one end to the other.
4. Place the prepared dough in greased and dusted bread tin and cover with a damp muslin cloth. Keep aside for 15-20 minutes.
5. Brush milk on top, bake it for 15-20 minutes. Take it out of the oven and brush melted butter.
6. Let it cool. Slice and serve.
