Mr Luce analysed what he sees as the weakening of Western liberal democracy. He argued that the popular support for figures such as Donald Trump, Marine le Pen and others are not the cause of this but rather a symptom. He argued that ignorance of the effort it took to build Western liberal democracy and complacency about its durability could lead to its demise.
About the Speaker:
Mr Luce is currently based in Washington DC as the Financial Times’ Washington columnist and commentator. He is the author of a number of acclaimed books. He also served as the South Asia bureau chief for the Financial Times. He previously worked as a speech writer to Treasury Secretary, Lawrence Summers in the Clinton administration. He is a graduate from Oxford University in Politics, Philosophy and Economics.
