A cloud burst in North Sikkim has sparked an alert in several areas of the northeastern state. As per reports, the cloudburst took place upstream of Chungthang in the Mangan district resulting in a significant rise in water level in the Teesta river.
Reports also suggest that two bridges including the Phidang Bridge in Lower Dzongu which connects Dzongu with the rest of the state have been washed away.
Heavy inflow of muddy water was seen at water bodies around the district after which people living in low-lying areas such as Singtam and Rangpo towns in Gangtok and Pakyong districts have also been alerted. Authorities have also asked people not to venture out near water bodies.
