Rhythmic compositions together with ‘Bhava’ or expressional pieces comprise the repertoire of kathak , which originated in the ancient temples of north India . It later found its way into the royal courts of Awadh and Jaipur. With the onset of the Mughal period, it became a court dance for royal entertainment. So we have devotional temple Kathak on the one hand and, on the other, the dazzling court Kathak with its exotic costumes and Persian influence. As a story-telling form, kathak is born of the narrative tradition of the village minstrel. The story teller is called a Kathak or a Kathakar. The Kathakar sang of heroic tales and legends, dramatism lyrics with subtle gestures and expressions. The tradition gradually blossomed in to a highly developed classical style. This graceful and spontaneous dance form has its roots traceable to the ancient times, enriched by both the hindu and the muslim heritage.

ARDHANARISWARA:
Ardhanariswara is a composite androgynous form of the Hindu God and Lord Shivaand hs consort Parvati,ardhanariswara depicted as half male and half female,split down middle,represent the synthesis of masculine and feminine energies of universe,one half shines with golden yollow champa flower andother halfshines in bright white of karpura.oneside of the head is adorned with a beautiful braided decoration and other sports an unkempt jata mukta. This strotra is written by Adi Shankaracharya set to Raag Bhatiar, Taal- Jhap Taal.
TARANA- the performance closes eith Tarana, a rendition of joy in speed, beauty, grace and rhythm.
