In a phenomenon occurring every 17 years in the eastern United States (including the Midwest and southeastern parts), a certain brood of periodical cicadas come out of the ground in very large numbers, breed rapidly, and die, all within about 3-4 weeks. They don't bite or sting, and are quite clumsy flyers. If enough of them are present, the noise from their singing can be very loud.
In the Cincinnati area it all occurred approximately between May 25th and June 20th, 2021. Their next appearance (at least in the Cincinnati area) is expected to be in 2038. Videos and pics were taken around Avondale (Cincinnati Children's area) and East Walnut Hills. Videos start from May 27th (0:05) and end on June 17th (4:53).
