Sky News was named News Channel of the Year - the third year in a row that it has won the coveted gong. The channel's coverage included special correspondent Alex Crawford reporting on rioting that gripped Hong Kong, and First Lives from the Deep, also known as Deep Ocean Live. Speaking after winning the News Channel of the Year award, Head of Sky News John Ryley said: "We try and tell news differently. In 2019 we went underwater to explore what is happening to the environment. "We really try and push the boundaries about how news is told and reported back to all our audiences on all our different platforms in the UK." Sky News also became the first ever recipient of RTS's Digital Award for "Why are transgender people self-medicating?" The digital-first video explored how some trans people in the UK are taking massive risks by self-medicating powerful gender-changing drugs without medical supervision and examined the mental health crisis that is affecting the trans community. Judges praised the project's "revelatory journalism told through powerful case studies". Martha Kelner, Sky News sport correspondent, scooped this year's Young Talent award prize. Judges said Kelner had brought a "fresh perspectives to sport" which she pursued with "unusual skill and energy". Last month, Kelner reported on a 103-page document obtained by Sky News which showed the full detail of the salary cap breaches which resulted in rugby side Saracens being relegated from the Premiership. Sky News also won the News Technology award for First Lives from the Deep which was produced in conjunction with Associated Press. This project saw presenters Mark Austin and Anna Botting go hundreds of feet below the surface of the Indian Ocean in a mini-submarine fitted with cameras. Sky News broadcast the world's first live TV news bulletin from under the sea to highlight the plight of the world's oceans. The judging panel commended the collaboration, commenting it was an 'innovative step-change in broadcast technology' and the 'new insights and perspectives on the damage being done to our seas.' This year's awards were hosted by Sky News's Anna Botting at the London Hilton on Park Lane.
