The 2024 BMW X5 Blends Luxury and Performance
BMW's popular midsize luxury SUV gets a refresh for 2024, bringing updated styling, improved powertrains, and cutting-edge tech to an already impressive package. The X5 continues to strike an excellent balance between comfort and sportiness, making it a top choice in the competitive luxury SUV segment.
On the outside, BMW has sharpened the X5's look with a revised front grille, new LED lighting elements, and updated wheel designs. The changes are subtle but effective, giving the X5 a more modern appearance without straying too far from its handsome predecessor.
Under the hood, BMW offers three compelling powertrain options. The base sDrive40i and xDrive40i models feature a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, now producing 375 horsepower thanks to a new 48-volt hybrid system. For those seeking maximum performance, the M60i packs a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 pumping out 523 horsepower. New for 2024 is the xDrive50e plug-in hybrid, combining a turbo six with an electric motor for a total of 483 horsepower and an impressive 40 miles of all-electric range.
Inside, the X5's cabin remains a luxurious place to spend time, with high-quality materials and excellent fit and finish throughout. The big news for 2024 is the addition of BMW's latest curved display, which combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster with a 14.9-inch central touchscreen. Running the new iDrive 8 infotainment system (with an update to 8.5 coming soon), it offers crisp graphics and improved functionality.
On the road, the X5 continues to impress with its refined ride quality and capable handling. While it may not be quite as sharp as the Porsche Cayenne, it strikes an excellent balance between comfort and sportiness. The new xDrive50e model is particularly impressive, offering strong acceleration and the ability to cruise on electric power alone.
Starting at $66,195 for the base sDrive40i and climbing to $90,295 for the M60i, the X5 isn't cheap. However, it delivers a premium experience that justifies its price tag. With its blend of luxury, performance, and technology, the 2024 BMW X5 remains one of the most well-rounded options in the midsize luxury SUV class.
