I have always wanted to try this, but never had the opportunity to do so until now. I placed a Canadian penny (circa. 2003) atop a nickel (circa. 2000) as a tanker train was approaching. I placed the camera, which is just a typical smartphone, directly on the rail parallel to the coins to capture the action. There was enough clearance such that the phone was not struck by the train wheels, which passed mere inches above the camera. What resulted were two flattened coins; excellent souvenirs from the railroad. Attempt at your own risk.
