In 2010, on the 150th Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, Girish Karnad remarked in an interview that Tagore was a great poet and not a playwright. The Oxford University Press wrongly compared his plays to the great plays of Kalidasa. This statement led Girish Karnad to controversy.
