Pyongyang counters S Korea broadcasts
North Korea has turned back on loudspeakers in response to South Korea’s decision to broadcast anti-Pyongyang propaganda across the border. Seoul had restarted its transmissions after North Korea detonated what it said was a hydrogen bomb. The South called the nuclear test a ‘grave violation’ of an agreement made between the two countries last year. South Korea turned off the propaganda to ease tensions after the two sides exchanged artillery fire in August.

Regime allows UN aid in Madaya
The UN says the Syrian regime has agreed to allow it to deliver food to the besieged town of Madaya. The aid group, Doctors Without Borders, says 23 people died from starvation last month alone. And one kilogramme of rice reportedly costs more than a hundred dollars. But many have questioned how much aid the regime will allow into the city of 43-thousand. The UN says that at least 250-thousand people have died in Syria’s civil war. The war, which is in its fifth year, has displaced half the country’s population.
Manufacturers reveal new toilet technology
At the Consumer Electronics Show, bathroom manufacturer Toto revealed it’s made a new toilet that cleans itself when flushed. The company has already sold 40 million of an earlier version that cost nearly ten thousand dollars. Meanwhile, researchers at a British University announced they’re making a waterless toilet that’s designed to be used in places where people don’t have access to adequate sewage. It uses nanotechnology to produce clean water and can actually treat waste. It would cost about five cents a day to use.
