A repair of Hecht GG950 2-stroke generator. It is another clone of the famous Tailgator like generator series (2-stroke 650-1200w small generators basically all look and work the same).
When I first started it was putting out ca 50v but later it couldn't produce more than 7v of AC.
Went over the possibilities when finally after removing the rotor and probing its diodes with my multimeter I saw a problem there. The diode+resistor pack was conducting both ways showing a smaller resistance than the 15k ohm resistor should provide.
One of the rectifier diodes was indeed broken.
Usually, it's the capacitor that blows on these generators but it seems I stumbled upon a little more interesting problem.
Soldering this low-quality copper-clad aluminium wire is a challenge. Got a rather weak connection when redoing it and added drops of super glue after testing the connections (diode pack to rotor resistance). A better way to do it would be first trying to solder and after using electrically conductive glue.
You can usually get cheap parts for those generators from Aliexpress.
Fortunately got the generator running again.
