Grax has been one of my personal favorite creators in recent times due to bangers such as Broken Signal and EXG. Those showcase some extremely good designs and effects. More important than that, though, they feel complete in every sense of the word. There's nothing I felt was missing nor anything that I could really "complain" about (as I do in these descriptions). Everything is placed with purpose, and the same can be said for TRANSTELLAR. I'm very interested in space personally, which is something I've delved into both in studies and fiction, so it's not a surprise I'd be very excited for this to release. It's been a few months since the first preview of this was shown, and every time I've thought about levels I've been hyped about since, this has been at the top of my list.
Needless to say, Grax delivered—not that there was any doubt, though. As mentioned, it's a space themed level, and that's pretty clear from the start. The first part could have been for a wider variety of themes, but if you take a close look at the background, you'll see the starry sky, and the theme becomes obvious at 0:12 at the very least. You're approaching a supermassive black hole, which is wonderfully depicted in the background, using a combination of art and effects. The foreground, consisting of some structures and decorations, are all custom-made to fit in perfectly with the background. Combined with the song, it really feels like you're icon is in space. Of course, what exactly happens inside a black hole isn't fully discovered—and will possibly never be—but Grax has used his imagination and probably various inspirations to depict what happens in the form of a Geometry Dash level. This is from 0:33 and onwards, and it's a crazy visual experience. There's obviously some cool frame-by-frame animations here and there, but most important are the effects in my opinion. Every background effect is a treat to look at. There are the ones at 1:09 and 1:34, but you could really pick any as a great example.
All in all, this is probably one of my alltime favorite levels because of how well it executes one of my favorite themes. I've always found the amount of space levels, at least very good ones, lacking. If I had to wish for a creator to make one, Grax would certainly be close to the top of my list considering how good Broken Signal turned out in terms of theming and effects. This has an even better theme in my opinion and is just way crazier overall. As for the gameplay experience, well, it remains to be seen what people think about this. The gameplay does look quite unique, if not weird, at times, but that may help emphasize the theme if it's not frustrating to play. I kinda want to try to beat this myself at some point once I have more time. For now, though, we have this showcase by Arb. Special thanks to him as always. I usually end off my descriptions with saying if a level will get Featured or Epic, but I don't think I have to say it here for you to know.
