The first 3 months of pregnancy is considered as the period when minimal amount of medication, minimal amount of any sorts of extra drugs should be avoided and without the consultation of your doctor you should not be taking that. But for a person who is already known to be suffering from bronchial asthma there are certain drugs which have to be continued by them to maintain their health. Now among them the tablets to some extend can be avoided and should be avoided. The inhalers are generally safer because they just go into the passage of the lungs and excreted out through the system. So they don’t reach the blood and hence to the uterus and the baby. So they are comparatively safe and if required they are the only inhalers which should be taken. So as such none of the anti asthmatic drugs are proven to be terratogenic only thing is that the tablet forms are little stronger and they could cause milder side effects to the mother. Hence they should be avoided and as told earlier the inhalers are safer for both the mother as well as the baby and they can be continued right throughout the pregnancy.
