Mohamed is a shop owner and former refugee from Sudan now living in Uganda. Thanks to a cash donation from our partner GiveDirectly, he can make smart investments for his future.

UN Sustainable Development Goal #1: End poverty in all its forms everywhere.

Refugees are among those furthest behind reaching this goal. GiveDirectly is working to change that.

GiveDirectly gives unconditional cash transfers to communities in the Kyriandongo refugee settlement in Uganda, such as those shown in the video.

With cash aid, refugees can lift themselves out of extreme poverty and make their own choices about how to spend the money. Some choose to invest in farms, schools, or open shops like Mohamed has done.
