Movie: Inside Out 2 (2024)

Why is Ennui French in Inside Out 2? Every other emotion clearly has an American style accent, but Ennui, representing the classic teenager with her eye rolling and general loathing of everything, has a French accent. She also created the giant “sar” chasm with her sarcastic humor. Could Disney be poking fun at the French for being overly sarcastic? Or is it simply because Ennui is a French word? After all, they could have just chosen to name her “boredom” or “attitude”. Whatever the case, I’m sure she’ll help Riley when it comes time for her French test. And why is Ennui purple? Her skin tone is very light purple, almost gray, which is a dull and inconspicuous hue that embodies boredom and low energy. These traits are clearly shown by the fact that she can’t even be bothered to go to the console to control Riley’s emotions, she just does it from her phone app while lounging in sweatpants and melting into the couch like a limp noodle. Her early concept art shows she was originally supposed to be pink, but they felt that would be a better color for embarrassment, representing blushing, so they went with purple tones instead.
