With 50 orders of the ADL E500 3-Door buses, there's only 2 concept buses that was built back in 2016. With the MAN A95 3-Door Concept bus and ADL E500 3-Door Concept bus was revealed to the public. Then the MAN A95 3-Door Concept bus was debut into service by Tower Transit. But for the ADL E500 3-Door Concept bus was never debut into service. The bus still haven't been in active yet despite its fascinating design. This was due to the one and only issue of the bus that has yet to be fixed. Unlike the MAN Lion’s City DD L Concept Bus, which was fitted with an engine and later entered revenue service trials, the Alexander Dennis Enviro500 Mockup Bus was not intended to be fitted with an engine. The current Enviro500 chassis layout would not leave enough room for the second staircase at the rear of the bus. Re-engineering the bus for a longitudinally-mounted engine, while possible, would be unlikely for a small market such as Singapore owing to economies of scale unless the LTA commits to future bulk orders of the Alexander Dennis Enviro500 product and its derivatives. Furthermore, in its current form, the vehicle’s long rear overhand could result in sideswipe incidents and ground impacts. If the LTA chooses to pursue this design of having the rear door at the end of the bus, further modification work would likely be required to reduce the rear overhang. With no engine to move the bus, they have to use a tow truck so that the bus can move anywhere else in Singapore. Despite the lack of engine, the bus was installed a new air-conditioning system back in 2018. As of September 2021, SMRT and SBST were the first customer to operate the production batch of the ADL E500 3-Door bus. With 48 ADL E500 3-Door buses remaining to be delivered to Singapore. It's so sad that the bus won't be able to debut into service despite it's one and only issue of the vehicle. But one day in the future, the bus will finally fix it's issue and debut into service just like the MAN A95 3-Door Concept bus.
