In today’s tutorial I’m going to show you how to permanently disable automatic Windows updates in Windows 10.
The automatic Windows updates can be frustrating, especially when you’re in the middle of a task, and your computer wants to restart your computer to install the update.
*To get started:*
1. Go into the Windows start bar, and type in “Services”, and click on the system search result.
2. Once the services application opens up, scroll all the way down until you find a service called “Windows update”.
3. Right click on the application, and select the “Properties” menu option.
4. Now from the “Startup type” dropdown field, click on it, and select “Disabled”.
5. Now click on the “Apply” and “OK” buttons.
6. Now for the second step in disabling automatic Windows updates, go into the Windows start bar, and type in “Registry Editor”, and click on the search result to open up the application.
7. From the navigation bar on the left hand side, click on the arrow next to “HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE” to expand it.
8. Now find the “Software” folder, and expand that.
9. Now find the “Policies” folder, and expand that.
10. Now find the “Microsoft” folder, and expand that.
11. Now right click on the “Windows” folder, and select “New”, and then click on “Key”.
12. For the folder name, type in “WindowsUpdate”, and hit the enter key on your keyboard.
13. Now right click on the “WindowsUpdate” folder, and click on “New”, and then click on “Key”.
14. Now type in “AU” for the folder name, and hit enter.
15. Now from within the “AU” folder, right click, and click on “New”, and then “DWORD (32-bit) Value”.
16. Now, type in “NoAutoUpdate” as the value, and hit the enter key on your keyboard. Please make sure not to leave any spaces between any of the words, and that each word starts with an uppercase letter.
17. Now to disable automatic updates, double click on the “NoAutoUpdate” value, and type in “1” into the “Value data” field, and click on the “OK” button.
You have now successfully disabled automatic Windows updates in Windows 10.
