This webinar was presented by Dr. Davide Dalla Rosa, who is a pediatric surgeon, and Dr. Luisa Patanè, who works in Obstetrics and Gynecology. They are both specialists at ASST papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo, Italy.
Congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) represent the main cause of birth defects on prenatal diagnosis and the cause of approximately 30-50% of end stage renal disease (ESRD) in children. The extensive use of echographic prenatal diagnosis has allowed an early recognition of most of this conditions, permitting a personalized diagnostic-therapeutic program. Urinary tract system ultrasound at birth is an essential and complementary tool in the definition of CAKUT; some of this conditions are prone to surgical treatment.
The aim of the webinar was to evaluate prenatal and postnatal parameters that correlate with the probability of a pathological diagnosis and the need of surgical treatment.
Furthermore, they evaluated the usefulness of UTD (Urinary Tract Dilation) classification system in their experience.
