"So far I can say that after the investigation, it is a single perpetrator. It is a 27-year-old unmarried German who has been receiving social welfare benefits for two years and comes from the Giessen area. So far we have found no evidence in the course of the investigation that there are co-perpetrators. There also was no evidence that he was a part of any Islamic extremist network."

5. SOUNDBITE (German) Lothar Koehler, Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation:
"One witness confirmed that the person shouted "Allahu Akbar" (God is great) before or during the attack and the accused also testified so. And also the statement "Infidels, you must die" was heard by witnesses. We need to accordingly investigate any background affecting national security."

STORYLINE:
A German man yelled out "infidel, you must die" and "Allahu akbar" ("God is great") as he stabbed four people at a Bavarian train station on Tuesday, witnesses said.
But authorities say they've found no links to any Islamic extremist network and that he appeared to be psychologically disturbed.
One victim died in a hospital and three others were being treated for their wounds.
The 27-year-old attacker was taken into custody near the scene at the station in Grafing and had a 10-centimetre (4-inch) survival knife tucked into his belt, authorities said.
The suspect, whose name wasn't released in line with German privacy laws, had admitted to the crime, according to the Munich prosecutor's office in charge of the case.
