Over the weekend, the nation celebrated with Simi Drey as she announced that she has become a first-time mother.
But as she tells me in this exclusive interview, she cannot remember a time in her childhood when was not depressed. This is despite having loving parents, an affluent British upbringing and having no abuse of any kind.
But she was unhappy because she was bullied relentlessly, called ugly as a child and body-shamed for being ‘thin’.
It was so bad, she didn’t know that her friend was asking her out until he stopped, because he just couldn’t believe he liked her.
How did she grow from that into the self-assured woman that she is today, one who was able to break off an engagement with a man who treated her less than she knew she deserved?
How did that confidence protect her from the negative buzz of the internet when she finally found the man of her dreams - and he was White and British?
In this conversation, the radio host and podcaster opens up her heart and shares deep truths with me today.
