Plex servers are nothing new on NAS devices. I've cautioned folks over the years to avoid them largely because the NAS boxes didn't have enough hardware oomph to transcode videos. This NAS is the first one that can actually transcode video and do it decently.
In my testing I was able to get three relatively stable and separate streams of Blu Ray MKV files transcoded to a collection of phones and tablets. Adding a fourth transcoding stream to the mix did slow things down a bit. But given that no other NAS I've tested could even maintain one stream this is a huge improvement for a NAS box.
According to Plex's NAS spreadsheet, the PR2100 and its larger sibling the PR4100 are the only NAS devices that support hardware transcoding. See the full list here: [ Ссылка ]
