Day 6 - White Rim! Here it is...the big one, the grand loop, the quintessential must-do Moab ride...White Rim Road. We secured our permits online and headed out to do the route counter-clockwise. From the Archview gas station it was about a 140-145 mile round-trip, depending on whose trip meter you trust. This includes the 2.6 mile r.t. side route out to White Crack Campground, as well as the 7.8 mile r.t. out to the the picnic area on the Colorado River through Lathrop Canyon. For those with stock TW200 tanks, there were a handful of Rotopax and other fuel cans loaned around to get everyone through. I completed the round-trip on my XT225 2.3 gallon tank, switching to reserve at 126 miles on my trip meter. It was about a 9 hour tour.
From Archview, we went out Hwy 313 to Mineral Bottom Road. We proceeded down the switchbacks in smaller groups in an attempt to follow the restrictive group size rules per the permit and NP rules. We mostly did end up riding in smaller groups anyway because of the dust. You will often see Sidekick Chad and I riding ala Ponch and John style from the TV show "CHiPS", hence the reference. Riding either side-by-side in the two track or slightly staggered to avoid the dust, was made possible by the helmet to helmet Sena communicators. This constant communication not only adds an element of fun to the rides, but also significantly increases safety. At one point you see us riding along and after cresting a hill, a mountain biker appears in the left track where Chad was riding, I was able to recognize the situation, slow, and simultaneously tell him to get in front of me. This also works well with other hazards and obstacles. You will always hear us on the Senas when I'm riding with Kevin and/or Chad. They are also great for solo riding by pairing with your phone, MP3 player, or GPS. The Sena SMH10 is the good old standard. It's reasonably priced, and works well. Find it here... [ Ссылка ] I really recommend stepping up though to at least the Sena 10S, which is basically the updated SMH10. It uses newer bluetooth technology and better speakers for clearer audio and improved range. The 10S is here... [ Ссылка ]
This route is as all of its lore proclaims. The rivers, the monuments, the tall and colorful canyon cliff walls, and of course, the rugged canyons are all just so incredible! What a joy to get up so close and personal with it all. This is of course a must-do! Do it while they still let us!
I tried to edit this to show you a accurate representation of this ride, from the scenery, to the terrain to traverse. Most of the videos in this series have been long, I know, but when you try to cut down a whole day, I just don't feel like I can capture it in a 5 minute video. I also like to edit to make it like a personal scrapbook. I do truly want you all to enjoy them, but I also need to edit them for me, so that I can revisit them and remember these places, people and rides in all of their glory.
Thank you for joining me and following along. Feel free to comment or leave me feedback. Thanks for watching! If you like what what you see, please thumbs up and subscribe to let YouTube know. Thanks!
